Carolina One FAQ

Below are some common questions regarding Carolina One Volleyball club programs. For more information on how our club compares to other volleyball clubs in South Carolina, please visit our page highlighting the C1 Difference. For more information on our tryout process, see our Tryout FAQs.

How long does the season last?

Tryouts for our travel teams begin in late October and practices begin in mid November. The regular season for all of our travel teams concludes in late March or early April, depending on exact tournament schedule. All players are offered the opportunity to participate in Extended Seasons, which run through May or June. We encourage our Select level teams to participate in the extended season as a team, but we understand that sometimes circumstances may preclude a player from continuing to play over the summer.

Will I play the same position I play in school?

We ask players to keep in mind that the composition of their club team will be different than their school team. We also believe in the benefits of cross training positions, especially at the younger ages. While we will try to train you in the same position you play at school, at times a team's dynamic requires that we train you at a secondary or new position. You should be willing to play any reasonable position.

Does Carolina One guarantee equal playing time?

For our travel teams, Carolina One does not guarantee equal playing time at tournaments. We do guarantee fair playing time for each player, taking into consideration skill level, attitude, attendance, commitment, position, and performance in practice. Players on In-House teams will receive equal playing time as much as possible. Club level players should expect to receive some playing time at all tournaments, but will not receive exactly equal playing time. Select team players should expect to compete to earn playing time. Please review our Playing Time Policies and Travel Team Policies for more information.

What happens if I am unhappy with my playing time?

The player and only the player should discuss playing time with a coach. The only appropriate time to do so is before or after practice, not during practice, and absolutely not during a tournament. Players are encouraged to set up a time with their coach(es) to meet about playing time. Please review our Playing Time Policies for more information.

What is the cost and what does it cover?

Carolina One attempts to provide the highest quality programming for the lowest possible cost. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, and we are dedicated to attending competitive, affordable tournaments. Our club fees cover coaching fees, gym costs, region registration fees, additional performance training, tournament registration fees, and uniform expenses, but do not include any travel expenses (food, transportation, or lodging) associated with tournaments. You can expect the total club fee to be between $500 and $2050, depending on the level of the team, the tournaments attended, and the number of girls on the team. We will make every effort to keep costs as low as possible. We believe that cost should never be a factor in whether or not an athlete can participate in our program, so please contact us if you have concerns. Visit our Club Fees page to view details about our fees for 2020-21, and visit our Fundraising page for more information about available fundraisers.

Do you offer a sibling discount?

Yes, we do offer a sibling discount for siblings who are both participating during the same season. The sibling discount is 10%, which is applied to the final installment due.

What tournaments will we travel to?

The final tournament schedule will be up to the club director, board of directors, and coaches, and is dependent upon the level of the team. Juniors teams will attend 2-3 half-day tournaments within the Palmetto Region. Club level teams will play 4-7 tournaments, primarily within the Palmetto Region. Select level teams will attend primarily out-of-region tournaments. Extended season schedules may include the AAU National Championships or the USAV Girls Junior National Championships.

How many players will be on each team?

Each team will have between 8 and 12 players depending on the level. Club level teams will consist of 8-10 players and Select level teams will consist of 9-12 players.

What if I play a school sport?

We will make every effort to accommodate school athletic schedules. However, we do expect our athletes to be at practices and tournaments when they do not have a school match or meet and to notify their coaches as early as possible of any conflicts.
